David Joel Horowitz is an American conservative writer. He is the founder and chairman of the David Horowitz Freelance Consulting Center; the Center's publication editor, FrontPage Magazine; and the director of Discover the Networks, a website that tracks left-wing political individuals and groups. Horowitz also founded the Student Foundation for Academic Freedom. Horowitz has written a number of books with author Peter Collier, including four on famous 20th century American political families whose members were elected to the presidency. He and Collier have collaborated on the writing of books on cultural criticism. Horowitz was the chronicler of Salon. From 1956 to 1975, Horowitz was a new outspoken leftist. He then rejected progressive ideas and became an advocate of neoclassicalism. Horowitz recounts his thought journey in a series of flashbacks, culminating in his 1996 memoir Radical Son: A Generational Odyssey.
