Bodies is bound to be a huge hit for Netflix as the twisty eight-part thriller series spanning a time-traveling mystery is as engrossing as it is addictive. Based on the graphic novel by Si Spencer, the new series follows four detectives investigating the same body in four different eras, the 1890s, the 1940s, present-day 2023, and 2053.
How can one body show up in multiple years? You’ll have to watch the show to unravel its secrets! If you’re a fan of mystery-box type shows like Dark and 1899, then Bodies is the perfect choice for your next binge.
Get to know the talented cast playing the four main detectives and more below!
Shahara Hasan is a detective in 2023 and a mother to Jawad. She lives with her son and her father. Shakara is played by Amaka Okafor, best known for voicing Nada in The Sandman podcast and movies like Greatest Days and Upon the Edge. She’s also done some voice work for video games such as Horizon Forbidden West.
In 1890, Detective Alfred Hillinghead is a family man with a secret who begins investigating the body on Longharvest Lane. Apart from playing Syril Karn in Andor, you might also recognize Soller from the 2012 adaptation of Anna Karenina or movies like The Titan or Marrowbone.
Charlie Whiteman is the detective from 1941, a Jewish man trying to get by in London during WWII. But like many Bodies characters, Whiteman has some dark secrets of his own. Jacob Fortune-Lloyd’s previous credits include The Power, The Great, See How They Run, Crooked House, Wolf Hall, and more.
The fourth detective at the forefront of Bodies is from the future. Iris Maplewood uncovers the body in the same location 30 years into the future, in 2053. Israeli actress Shira Haas is probably best known for playing Esther Shapiro in the acclaimed series Unorthodox.
