If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s fans of romantic movies and shows on Netflix to always show up for their favorite titles. The success of shows like Virgin River, Bridgerton, Sweet Magnolias, and others have also led to the success of the streamer’s original romantic comedies and more of the best romantic movie series on Netflix.
Some of the most popular romantic comedies of the past few years have been released on Netflix, and most have spawned at least one sequel. Movie trilogies like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and The Kissing Booth helped reignite the genre for a younger audience, but those aren’t the only romantic movie series that have been burning up our watch lists.
While we continue to wait for more of our favorite romantic shows to return with new seasons, it’s never a bad time to rewatch all of the best romantic movie series Netflix has to offer. Let’s get things started with the fan-favorite Through My Window movies!
Based on the novel of the same name by Ariana Godoy, the Spanish romance movie Through My Window first premiered on Netflix in February 2022, and its sequel Through My Window: Across the Sea debuted in June 2023. The films center on Ares (Julio Peña Fernández) and Raquel (Clara Galle), teens who live next door to each other and fall deeply into a passionate relationship. A third film, Through My Window: Looking at You, will be released in 2024.
Based on the book series by Jenny Han, who also wrote the books based on the hit Amazon Prime Video series The Summer I Turned Pretty, Netflix struck teen rom-com gold with To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. The film trilogy made Lana Condor and Noah Centineo stars, each of them later returning to Netflix for their own original series (Boo, Bitch! and The Recruit respectively). The movies also spawned the spin-off series XO, Kitty, which will return for a second season.
Based on the books by Beth Reekles, The Kissing Booth trilogy first kicked off in 2018 with the debut film, which centers on high schooler Elle Evans (Joey King) as she balances as romance with her crush Noah (Jacob Elordi) and her best friendship with his younger brother Lee (Joel Courtney). The sequels further complicated Elle’s romantic life as she makes college plans and meets a new heartthrob, Marco (Taylor Zakhar Perez). There’s no doubt these feel-good movies are favorites!
Perhaps one of the most popular modern romantic movie series, the After movies are always huge hits when a new one arrives on Netflix. So far, there are four movies that have been released — After, After We Collided, After We Fell, After Ever Happy — and the fifth, After Everything, will be released this fall. But there’s still a bright future ahead for the franchise with more titles planned.
The Vanessa Hudgens cinematic universe on Netflix is nearly as extensive as the streamer’s Christmas movie cinematic universe. The High School Musical alum has starred in four of Netflix’s holiday romantic comedies, three of them being The Princess Switch trilogy. Hudgens plays multiple characters in each movie and she does so flawlessly. These movies are a great annual watch around the holidays, but no one one judge you if you watched during the summer.
Speaking of Netflix’s extensive Christmas movie cinematic universe, some of the best romantic movie series on Netflix are the royal rom-coms in the A Christmas Prince trilogy. From their meeting to their royal wedding to the birth of their royal baby, these delightful and larger-than-life fan-favorites are another annual treat for a little bit of love and holiday spirit.
